Choosing a Wedding Dress to Suit Your Body Type
Yes, you could no doubt save money by not buying a wedding dress and simply getting married in jeans instead! You could also save lots more by not having a reception, or just handing your guests packs of sandwiches from the local food store. The point is, of course, that your wedding day is special. It is meant to be a day different to any other, and what you wear is also meant to be different to your attire on any other day. It is very hard to put a price on making that day different, but custom made wedding dresses can be worth their weight in gold!
Apple shaped bride: This shape is usually top heavy, with the upper body being wider than the lower body, that is "wider top and smaller bottom". Apples do not have a defined mid section and usually have large ample bosoms. If you are apple shaped, avoid halter and off the shoulder necklines that accentuate your shoulders and upper body, you should rather opt for a style that balances the proportion of your lower and upper body. Empire or 'A' line is the best style for this body shape.
Oval shaped faced brides can relax as they are fortunate enough that they can wear virtually any hair style. Brides with heart-shaped and square faces should avoid long straight styles. Heart-shapes should opt for side partings and soft curls. Curls and waves also look great on square-shaped faces as it gives a softer look, whereas round-faced brides should avoid volume and curls as this adds width. Sleeker styles pulled away from the face would be much more appropriate as they are a perfect shape for high 'Updos'.
Column: This body shape is usually straight up and down, with no or a slightly defined waist. The lower and upper body are more or less the same width and is a common shape amongst models. You can be a tall or a short column, but this body type is usually a slightly boyish or athletic figure. If you have the column shape, steer clear of any empire line dresses that will only make you look very straight up and down. Rather opt for elaborate ball gown wedding dresses that look stunning with this body shape.
It is of course your decision on how you wear your hair but do make sure you are comfortable with it. It should be a reflection on you and your individual personality. If you usually wear your hair down the your friends and family may find it a bit odd to see worn tightly pulled back off your face. It's probably not the best of ideas to go for a really wild and out of character hairstyle for your wedding day. Your husband to be wants to see you greeting him at the altar not a bride he doesn't recognise!
